Rescuing, Sheltering and Rehoming Companion Animals in the Columbia Valley of BC since 2007

Fostering

From time to time, we need help from caring families or individuals to temporarily house animals in need. This truly is a partnership to help save lives.  We provide all the essentials so there is no cost to  you — you supply the care, love, compassion and time, AND you reap the rewards of watching your foster animal flourish in your care.

The primary role of a foster care volunteer is to provide a safe, healthy environment for the pet and to socialize them in order to increase their adoptability. We need foster care volunteers to provide temporary care for dogs and cats of all sizes and ages. We take great care to match the animal to you and your situation. Some animals may need fostering for only a few days while others may need to be in your home for much longer. Again, we work with you to ensure that you are comfortable with the animal, his/her needs and the expected timeline for fostering.

Your efforts will help prepare the animals for adoption and, more importantly, you will be preventing these animals from suffering “on the streets” and making space at the shelter for another animal who can take his place. ICAN needs foster homes year round but especially during the spring and summer months when we typically get a lot of kittens. Foster dogs are always guardian surrendered so we are not always in need of homes for foster dogs.

Foster guardianship is an opportunity to make a difference in an animal’s life. We are looking for caring, compassionate individuals or families, 18 years of age or older, who live within 30 kms of Invermere and are willing to donate a portion of their lives to helping these animals.
