Rescuing, Sheltering and Rehoming Companion Animals in the Columbia Valley of BC since 2007

New Outdoor Enclosure

Invermere Companion Animal Society (ICAN) is thankful to have a newly refurbished, weather-proof compound for the large number of cats-in-need that we are presently housing. With more people having to move and less (pet-friendly) long-term rentals available, there is a growing population of companions looking for shelter until new homes can be found. This also requires more hands to help with their care and maintenance. Since feeding and cleaning require adherence to specific procedures, we are seeking dedicated, reliable people who will follow direction. We are also hoping to expand our foster home network.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to Columbia Valley Community Foundation for providing the “seed money” which allowed us to purchase the materials that Timber Point Contracting put together so beautifully to replace our aged outdoor enclosure. Additional gratitude goes to Jesse Sutherland of Timber Point for a $3.000 cash donation.

Special thanks must also go to Don Buckner, Barry Brown-John, and the dedicated members/volunteers who helped dismantle and take away the worn material to prepare the space for re-structuring. They also did a great job taking out the overgrown shrubbery. Thank you all.

To become a member or volunteer, you can send an e-mail to info@icanbc.com, fill out an application on our website https://icanbc.com/forms/volunteer-application/, or phone 250-341-7888.

New Gravel Parking Area -2021

ICAN extends A HUGE THANK YOU to Max Helmer Construction Ltd. for your support to our organization over the last several years! Your caring and community spirit showed up once again last week, by delivering and spreading gravel at our shelter parking lot. Our sincerest gratitude for the generous support you have given to ICAN!

Tikka

FEMALE – White & Brown Ragdoll – Long Hair – Estimated Birthdate: May 17, 2020
March 31, 2021 – Tikka post surgery photo

UPDATE: MARCH 2021 – Tikka had major dental surgery on February 23rd to assist with her feline stomatitis. The vet successfully extracted all her teeth behind the canine teeth. At her post-op visit it was determined the incision looked good, however while the gums were healing they were inflamed. Thus she was put on an anti-inflammatory med in addition to remaining on antibiotics. During a recent visit, because the inflammation still exists around her 4 remaining teeth, she was prescribed a new antibiotic to be taken for a month’s duration. We’re hoping this recent change of medication helps improve the inflammation and assist in her recovery. We thank everyone for your caring inquiries and good thoughts, as does Tikka! 🐾

PREVIOUS INFORMATION: We would also like to let everyone know that we have a foster volunteer family who has offered to take care of Tikka so she will be in a loving and supportive family home as she goes through her pre and post-surgery needs. Please help — Tikka has stomatitis and needs major dental surgery!

Tikka is a beautiful, sweet 8-month old petite girl who is adored by everyone who meets her. Unfortunately she’s been diagnosed with feline stomatitis, which in her case is inflammation of the gums. This painful condition does not have a definitive cause and it’s been determined extraction of all teeth behind the canine teeth will give her the best outcome. Vet fees for this urgent dental surgery, including after care antibiotics and pain medication, are estimated at $1,340.

Sadly Tikka’s tongue sticks out because of her swollen mouth. While surely in discomfort she still delights in attention, and especially enjoys head and chin massages. She spends most of her day lounging, either snuggled in a comfy kitty bed or in the top of the catpost. However, we believe after dental surgery, she’ll return to acting like the kitten she oughta be. We look forward to that day of seeing her running around and playing with toys, living life to the fullest.

Would you please consider a monetary gift to assist ICAN with this critical dental surgery for precious Tikka? It will make all the difference for her to live a longer and healthier life.

Membership Renewal Form

Dear Members, Volunteers and Lovers of Animals:

We would like to express our deep appreciation for all that you do for ICAN and for the residents.  ICAN would not exist without the care, time and financial assistance of people like you who volunteer and contribute in many ways.

In advance of our upcoming Annual General Meeting, we would like to ask you to renew your membership with ICAN or if you are not a member, ask that you consider becoming one.  This is a very simple process.  We just need the attached form filled out and returned to ICAN along with the annual fee of $10.  Payment can be:  cash, cheque or sent via email/electronic transfer to info@icanbc.com

Becoming a member gives you a voice at our Annual General Meetings in the form of voting on important subjects for the continual operation of the facility.  Memberships are approved by the Board prior to the AGM.  Having a significant amount of members is beneficial when it comes time for ICAN to apply for various grants etc.

Please also note that we are looking for new Board members, and more importantly, filling Officer roles such as President and Vice-President.  We’re doing so with a concentrated effort and view to succession planning; helping to ensure ICAN’s longevity and success.  If any of you are interested, or know someone that might be, please do let us know.

We thank you for your continued support and we look forward to welcoming all new Members.

Thank you so much.

Flame – Dental Surgery Assistance

Hi Everyone!

This is Flame sending a few pictures so you can see how great I’m doing. I’ve been with my Foster Family for a few months now, and am thriving.

However, lately I’m having a problem.  My teeth are hurting me.  Eating is difficult, and I even drool when trying to eat crunchies.

Foster Mom took me to the Vet for a general check-up, and dental exam.  My overall health is great, but the teeth, not so good.  My Dr. said I need moderate to major dentistry to remove years of tartar build-up, and possibly an extraction or two. This is going to cost about $1,000.00, depending on how much work needs to be done.

The thing is, if if the surgery is not done, my teeth will continue to degenerate, causing me pain, and most likely, infection will set in….

I’m in such good health otherwise, I do plan on enjoying life to the fullest, cuddling, racing through the house, and chasing toys for another 4 – 5 years.

PURRdy please, can you assist ICAN, to help me, with a financial donation?  If so, here’s how:
